The Easter Bunny is making house calls in the Chicago area this year to help families celebrate while maintaining social distancing.

LA GRANGE (WLS) -- Celebrating Easter may be difficult for many as social distancing guidelines have forced the cancellations of events, such as church services, dinners and egg hunts.

Waterlemon, whose name is a fun play-on-words that nods to the often-jumbled way toddlers pronounce certain multi-syllable tongue twisters, is a one-of-a-kind concept store. It includes a boutique featuring carefully curated children’s clothes and accessories, toys, party décor and gifts for the entire family.

The café seating area and play space are also available for private parties on weekends, offering parents a clean, stylish, intimate setting for up to 45 guests.

How have you transitioned your selling strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Since temporarily closing our brick and mortar due to Covid-19, we’re more heavily focused on driving online sales. We’ve also just created our signature Waterlemon Birthday Bash Boxes, which are basically, you guessed it, a Birthday Party in a Box! So far they’re doing great for us as people still want to celebrate!

Waterlemon, an Illinois brick-and-mortar business, connects with shoppers and captures toy sales. Nina Joseph Makovski and her husband Paul, opened Waterlemon in 2019 and have had great success with toys "that you'll find yourself saving for their children". 
"We carry mostly wooden toys which really resonate with our customers who want sustainable items in their homes. They wear well and get better with age.", Makovski said.

Nina Makovski, who has ties to the area, plans to open the Waterlemon shop with husband, Paul, at 25 S. La Grange Road, after receiving zoning approvals Monday from the La Grange Village Board.

“I love this town so much I moved back from California to raise my daughter here,” Makovski said. She grew up in La Grange Park, graduated from Lyons Township High School and says she has many fond memories of the downtown area.
